Daniel Radcliffe is angry about how the latest Harry Potter film has been overlooked by the Academy for next month’s Oscars.
The actor said the final installment in the fantasy series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” didn’t get any recognition due to committee’s dislike for commercial films.
The film has only three nominations, but it’s in technical categories. In contrast, Martin Scorsese’s 3D children’s film “Hugo” received 11 Nods and black-and-white silent film “The Artist” got 10.
“I don’t think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids’ films, unless they’re directed by Martin Scorsese,” Radcliffe said. “I was watching Hugo the other day and going, ‘Why is this nominated and we’re not?’ I was slightly miffed.”
He added: “There’s a certain amount of snobbery. It’s kind of disheartening. I never thought I’d care. But it would’ve been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in.”
Harry Potter films in the past have been nominated for Oscars – all in technical or craft categories – but none of the films has yet to win a single piece of hardware.
The series has grossed $7.7 billion world wide.
