Nicki Minaj bears her softer more vulnerable side in her leaked ‘Marilyn Monroe’ song.
Nicki, 29, just fresh from her amped up Super bowl performance with Madonna and M.I.A. and seeing her last single ‘Stupid Hoe’ get banned from BET and slammed by critics, is gaining a nod of approval for her conveniently leaked, sensitive ballad.
Routinely provocative with a dominating stance, the rapper abandons rap for singing altogether on the brooding song.
One verse goes: “I can be selfish, yet so impatient sometimes I feel like Marilyn Monroe / I’m insecure, yeah, I make mistakes sometimes, feel like I’m at the end of the road,” she sings. “Take me or leave me / I’ll never be perfect / Believe me I’m worth it / So take me or leave me.”
Because the song is entitled ‘Marilyn Monroe’, is Nicki comparing her life’s toils to that of the troubled actress? Perhaps. She opens up more by singing: “Just call me blessed / If you can’t handle my worst / You ain’t getting my best / Is this how Marilyn Monroe felt?” she asks on the chorus. The Young Money even opens up about her insecurities. “Take me or leave me/I’ll never be perfect/Believe me/I’m worth it.”
Or maybe the rapper is spreading her wings with different material as one fan via Twitter suggests, “Love @nickiminaj song Marilyn Monroe! She’s really growing as a artist!!!”.
As of now, there is no word if the song will make her pushed back sophomore album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”.
Minaj’s new album date is April 3rd.
