Magnolia Acquires Rights To Bob Marley Biopic

Yea Mon! Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights to “Marley”, a biopic about the legendary musician Bob Marley. The company announced the news in a press release earlier today.

“This documentary is the ultimate revelation of my father’s life,” said Ziggy Marley, who served as an executive producer on the film. “The family is proud to be able to have the world finally experience this emotional journey.”

“Marley”, which was directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland; One Day In September), will premiere at the 62nd Berlin Film Festival later this month. The film will premiere in the U.S. next month at the South By Southwest film festival.

Macdonald reportedly had access to rare footage of the late great Bob Marley, including archival photos, performances and interviews with his family, friends, and former bandmates The Wailers.

“Bob Marley is a fascinating, towering figure in musical history, and Marley is the biography that he deserves,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.

The “Marley” documentary will be in theaters on Friday, April 20.
