Brits Benedict Cumberbatch & Noel Clarke Join 'Star Trek 2' Cast

British actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Noel Clarke are the latest actors to be beamed up to the J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2 project. Cumberbatch’s and Clarke’s roles have been kept under wraps, but there has been much speculation as to who their characters will be.

Clarke, who currently has a recurring role on the BBC’s hit series “Doctor Who”, is rumored to be playing a family man with a wife and young daughter. There is plenty of chatter that Cumberbatch, who is currently promoting “War Horse”, may play the super-villain Khan.

Cumberbatch and Clarke will join Alice Eve and Peter Weller as Trek newbies. Returning members include Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and John Cho. The addition of Cumberbach and Clarke brings the total of high profile British actors to four.

Abrams, who plans to post-convert the film to 3-D, will direct Star Trek 2 from the script of writers Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci. Bryan Burk and David Ellison are producing the sequel which is scheduled to be released on May 17 2013.
