Martin Scorcese Wins Top Honors By British Film Academy

Director Martin Scorsese will be honored with the British film academy’s top award, which was announced today (January 4).

Scorsese, who is known for directing “Raging Bull”, “Goodfellas”, and “Casino”, among others films, will be given a Fellowship, which is a recognition for a lifetime contribution to film.

The legendary director said it was a great honor to be recognized by the British Academy.

In the past, the 69 year old had won three accolades from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), all in 1991, for “Goodfellas.”

Past winners of the BAFTA Fellowship are Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, and Elizabeth Taylor.

BAFTA chairman Tim Corrie said, “Martin Scorsese is a legend in his lifetime — a true inspiration to all young directors the world over.”

The BAFTAs are UK’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.
