UPDATE-Nicki Minaj has unofficially laid her case for a future deal with Barbie manufacturer Mattel for over a year now. Minaj with her colorful wings, a penchant for all things pink(she recently purchased a custom pink Bentley coupe) and even her fans moniker Barbz short for Barbie have all paid off. Mattel has produced a replica of Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday ensemble down to her tattoo!
The one of a kind 11- ½ inch replica will be auctioned on December 9th on CharityBuzz.com as part of a five-day Divine Design event and gala at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The bidding will begin at $1,000 with all proceeds of the sale going to Project Angel Food, a nonprofit organization for people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Stefani Yocky told Billboard about working with Nicki Minaj on the project: “Barbie is obviously a pop culture icon. She’s been in the spotlight for over 50 years, and strikes that chord with girls of all ages in terms of being representative of the times.”
“And Nicki is a big part of pop culture and also huge within the fashion industry, as well as a big Barbie fan … It’s really exciting for us that she’s been so generous to allow us to create this one-of-a-kind doll to support such an important cause.”
Last night at the Billboard Women in Music awards Nicki who received the Rising Star award gushed about her new Barbie doll:
‘It’s just a one of a kind, limited edition for charity, and so I never thought Mattel would even pay attention to me. For me this is a very major moment, because it just shows that you can come from nothing and still be a force in the main world, a business woman, and hopefully a mogul one day.’
Congrats to Nicki Minaj!
