Christian Bale announces The Dark Knight Rises will be his last Batman film.
The criminals of Gotham City can breath a sigh of relief because the meanest, toughest, broodiest of all Batman actors is taking off the cape and calling it quits. This means the next time people watch Christian Bale in full vigilante action as Batman, will also be the last time because the Caped Crusader has officially announced his retirement.
Bale revealed in an interview with The Philippine Daily Enquirer that The Dark Knight Rises will be the final Batman movie for both himself and director Christopher Nolan.
“I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl off,” Bale said “I believe the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.”
The $1 billion worldwide success of the Bale/Nolan Batman franchise shows how much fans love the movies, meaning that this announcement leaves them feeling like they took a Bruce Wayne punch to the gut!
This disheartening movie news also has us asking three questions concerning Christian Bale’s Batman retirement: Why Chris Why? — Who will replace Bale? — and, Will the Joker shed a tear for his departure?
Since The Dark Knight Rises will be the last of the Christian Bale reign in the Batman role, it may rake in a large amount at the box office. It sure needs to with an all-star cast including the original members of the Bale-Batman family: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman and new cast members Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Tom Hardy as Bane.
So, will you be going to the theatre to see the new Batman next summer?
