Billy Crystal Beats Out The Muppets To Host The 84th Academy Awards

Well the Academy sure fixed that fast! Billy Crystal now has the duty of hosting the 84th Annual Academy Awards and Brian Grazer has the job of producing the show. This will be Crystal’s second time hosting so it was an easy choice for Grazer and the Academy. Even though the Muppets had a full-fledged campaign to win the task of hosting the show, they were no match for funny man Crystal. In addition, The Academy didn’t want to try anything new coming off the mess Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy left them in.

Just a little back story:

Comedian Eddie Murphy had been chosen to host the 2012 show, but pulled out Wednesday following the departure on Tuesday of producer and friend Brett Ratner, who left amid criticism of his use of a pejorative term for gay men at a screening of the director’s action comedy “Tower Heist,” which stars Murphy and Ben Stiller.

Now, back to the Muppets. The Muppets masterminded a campaign on Twitter and Facebook that accrued thousands of followers and supporters in one day. Maybe the Muppets are down but now out; the Muppets are famous for crashing tv events. If the Muppets indeed crash the show there would be a great shake up from the usual monotonous delivery of the show that usually seems to drag on endlessly.
