Reed Between The Lines, BET’s newest scripted sitcom is touted as the new Cosby Show.
The show centers on characters Malcolm Jamal-Warner, who plays a PHD English professor, and Tracee Ellis Ross who plays his psychiatrist wife. Does this nuclear family with two doctors and three adorable kids (two girls and one boy) mimic a familiar theme? Well if you were thinking the Cosby Show, you’re on the right path as both Malcolm and Tracee welcomed the comparison.
An interviewer of Access Hollywood Live, likened their romance to that of the Huxtables, Tracee replied;
“How could we not aspire to that?”
She continued;
“It’s been magical. We sort of backed into this divine partnership.”
Co-star Malcolm Jamal Warner chimed in;
“It’s fun to be able play a happily married couple. There’s no drama, but there’s obviously family stuff and obstacles.”
He continued;
“But it’s nice to be able to play a couple who really dig each other. I think that’s sort of the Cliff and Claire of it,” he continued. “You knew that Cliff really dug his wife, and she loved him, so it’s kind of reminiscent of that of that.”
Last night the pair gathered at Bar Basque in New York City for a special VIP Screening of the show. Kanye West was among the list of A-list celebrities who came to support Malcolm Jamal and Tracee Ellis Ross, who as you might remember was featured in his New Workout Plan music video, years ago.
Reed Between the Lines gets a lead in from the BET Hip Hop awards airing at 8pm – hopefully the show premiere time of 10pm will be earlier after this week. Are you excited about the new show?
