Johnny Depp has been cast to play Dr. Seuss in an upcoming movie for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. The actor is also producing the film about Suess’ life, whose real name is Theodor Geisel.
The Hollywood star has played other children’s books characters, starring both as Willy Wonka in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and The Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland”.
Geisel was born in 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended college at Dartmouth. In the 1950s, Geisel started publishing books that became worldwide classics. He was very successful as an author, selling more than 200 million books worldwide.
Geisel died of throat cancer in 1991.
