Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computers and Chief Executive of Pixar, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this past Wednesday, dying at age 56. No less than 24 hours after his death was announced, Steve Jobs most loved public appearance, his commencement speech given at Standford, went viral.
Jobs had an unparalleled vision for Apple software that no one has yet to duplicate or imitate since its inception in the early 80’s. From the Mac, to iPhones, iPods or iPads; almost everyone has had some experience with apple devices. Since his death there has been and overwhelming show of support from every corner of the globe.
Close friend and playful rival, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, released a heart felt tribute to his iconic companion.
“The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”
While there are many quotes from Steve’s long career many undoubtedly came from his 2005 commencement speech to the graduating class at Standford.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.“
Good Bye Steve, Job well done.
