Gabourey Sidibe Calls Out Passive Aggressive White Woman Who Questioned the Origin of Her Name

Actress Gabourey (Gabby) Sidibe took to Twitter to let out her frustration over a woman asking about her first name. Sidibe shared the incident with her 400K plus followers. “This lady legit just asked me ‘How did your mom come up with your name?’ as if my name is imaginary. I said ‘I’m Senegalese. ‘Gabourey’ is an actual name. It’s not made up.’ Also, my Dad named me but her question implies I dont have one.”

Part of Sidibe’s irritation was the insinuation that the name doesn’t exist. She let out her frustration on a follower who attempted to share a similar story. The “Precious” actress assumed the woman was white and was trying to “All Lives Matter” her experience.

Luckily, the two made peace and the actress apologized for jumping the gun. Another asked Sidibe to reveal the race of the woman…for “scientific purposes” of course.

“The best part is that you already know so I dont have to tell you. But, 👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼
Just in case this isn’t clear, it was a white woman. She was being friendly with a side of racial micro aggression. 🤷🏾‍♀️”

Sidibe who was born in Brooklyn, New York to a Black American mom and a Senegalese father revealed she once wanted to be named “Lisa.”

In the end, the young actress has the solution for white folks who have an issue with her name.
