Reaction to this Activist Seeing Police in ‘Different Light’ After Being Robbed at Gun Point is Troubling

A Tampa Bay, Florida anti-police brutality activist is thankful to the police after they helped get his possessions back early Saturday morning, July 30.

According to Fox 13, New Black Panthers activist Ali Muhammad was approached by an armed robber at 3 a.m. after DJing at a club in Ybor City. Muhammad was told to hand over his backpack and his earrings. Fearing for his life, the activist complied and called the police immediately.

“Police can be hostile and very belligerent. Friday night, I met some officers who [were] about business, and that was getting a bad guy off the street,” Muhammad says in the news report.

The robber has been identified as 18-year-old homeless man, Antwan Robertson.

Police found Robertson hiding behind a dumpster with Muhammad’s possessions.

“To just go out late at night and throw your life away, robbing people, that’s hurting. Every Black life is valuable right now, especially a Black male, and for him to keep going on with the norm, continue with the process of going to jail and ending your life like that, as our boys are doing nowadays, it’s very hurting.”
