Killed at the Same Age
Malcolm X was four years older than King, but they were both just 39 when murdered: Malcolm X in New York’s Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965, and King in Memphis on a balcony at the Lorraine Hotel on April 4, 1968.
They Saw Their Future
Both men talked in speeches of dying for their causes. Each had received countless death threats and ultimately believed their demise was imminent.
Economic Power
They spoke repeatedly about the value of Blacks spending their money in their community to grow their businesses and build wealth. They also believed love without economic power was weak.
