The late rap star and actor Tupac Shakur was given the name Lesane Parish Crooks at birth, according to People.com. His mother Afeni Shakur (born Alice Faye Williams) changed his name to Tupac Amaru Shakur when he was a year old, after her marriage to Mutulu Shakur.
She renamed her son after the Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II.
