Repping The Islands: Joey Bada$$ ‘My Yout’ Video Feat. Maverick Sabre

joey-bada$$-my-youtJoey Bada$$ went to St. Lucia to shoot his latest video for the reggae influenced track “My Yout” remix which features London vocalist, Maverick Sabre. Joey is from New York but his parents are from the Caribbean, so he went back to represent. According to theboombox.com:

“As well as repping BK to the fullest, Joey Bada$$ is a second generation immigrant from the Caribbean — a background that definitely plays into his music, particularly on the reggae-spiced ‘My Yout,’ which recently received a remix from London singer Maverick Sabre.

“It seems fitting that, in the track’s official video, the Pro Era frontman returns to his family’s native St. Lucia. Despite being a world away from his concrete jungle (it’s more like an actual jungle), young Joey takes in the scenery, meets the locals and generally soaks up the vibe of the island, without having to force any clichéd weed references.”

The “My Yout” remix appears on Joey Bada$$’s “Summer Knights” EP as a bonus track which is currently available online.

Things haven’t been all great for Joey Bada$$, as he and TDE rapper Ab Soul were apparently racially profiled by the police in St. Louis this morning. A video surfaced online of the two rappers in handcuffs, with Joey asking the police “have you figured out why we’re in these handcuffs?” Joey was in a seemingly jovial mood about the incident. And it turns out the cops were just harassing them as they were walking across their hotel parking lot to get to their tour bus. No one went to jail for the related incident.
