Top Dogs: Ab-Soul’s ‘Dub Sac’

TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) may be best known for label head Kendrick Lamar, who has become one of the hottest rappers in music over the last 12 months,  but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other talented rappers in the group.

Schoolboy Q is already getting major airplay with his single “Collard Greens” and this week Ab-Soul is giving fans a new song called “Dub Sac.”

According to rap-up.com:

“A day after Jay Rock launched his lyrical assault on his freestyle to ‘Numbers on the Boards,’ his TDE labelmate Ab-Soul blazes up his new song ‘Dub Sac’ produced by Tae Beast and Dave ‘miyatola’ Free.

“Over the chopped-and-screwed beat, he shouts out the sexy women and even a Pokémon character (‘I’m in lightning like Pikachu’)”

“Dub Sac” is a great representation of that traditional West Coast sound, with a hint of Southern flavor, which are the right ingredients for a hit. It will be interesting to see how far this song, and the careers of the other members of TDE go. Sometimes in rap labels, one really big artist will overshadow the careers of everyone else. Hopefully, the TDE camp can be an exception.
