A new photo featuring Dwayne Johnson in his upcoming role as Hercules surfaced online. While on set, a photographer snapped this photo of Johnson gripping his chariot, tethered to four stallions. The photo came with a caption authored by Johnson that read:
“Honored to have these magnificent Friesians leading my chariot into battle daily.”
The film is reportedly based on the graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars.” The storyline will follow a haunted Hercules who has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail…he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.
Directed by Bret Ratner, the film also stars: Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie, Reece Ritchie and Tobias Santelmann.
Expect “Hercules” to hit theaters July 2014.
