Natina Reed, former member of the late ‘90s girl group Blaque, was killed crossing a Georgia highway in Gwinnett early Saturday, just a day before her 33rd birthday.
The R&B singer was crossing the busy road when she was struck by the vehicle, but was not killed on impact.
Producer Isaac Hayes III tweeted about the tragic loss and referred to the mishap as a “hit and run,” but Gwinnett police are reporting a different story.
“R.I.P Natina Reed of the Group Blaque. Killed by a Hit & Run last night. So sad,” Hayes tweeted along with some photos of the star.
The police revealed that so far there is no indication that the driver was at fault and they are currently investigating why Reed was even crossing the busy road at 10:30 pm.
“The driver of the vehicle was determined to be not at fault, and there are no charges pending,” Gwinnett police corporal Edwin Ritter explained.
According to People, the driver of the vehicle is actually the person who called 911 while the passenger performed CPR on the “808” crooner, which would obviously indicate that the tragedy wasn’t a hit and run at all.
The 32-year-old was pronounced dead after reaching the Gwinnett Medical Center and leaves behind Tren Brown, her 10-year-old son with rapper Kurupt.
When news broke of the loss, Twitter immediately lit up with sorrow filled messages from Natina’s friends, family, and former group members.
“Last night the world was changed forever, life will never be the same … she was my sister,” former Blaque member Brandi Williams tweeted.
Her other fellow member, Shamari Fears Devoe, tweeted a similar message saying, “My world as I know it has forever changed. Until we meet again, may you find comfort in the arms of an angel. I love you Natina.”
Gabrielle Union, who co-starred with the singer turned actress in “Bring It On,” kept her message simple as she tweeted, “#RIP #Sad #BringItOn.”
Both Brandi and Shamari revealed that their former group member had been back in the studio working on new music and was even in the process of working on a new reality show.
