Lil Wayne Taking Break from Rap to Become Skateboarder

Lil Wayne is bored with rap and is considering a career change.

Weezy called Hot 107.9 in Atlanta for an interview and discussed taking a break from the rap game. “It’s kinda putting rap on the back burner, that’s all. Rap’s taking a backseat to skating, that’s all,” he said. “I kinda feel like I deserve that, I feel like the fans deserve a little No Wayne. I’ve been everywhere, man. I’ve been out on everybody’s song, I’m still on everybody’s song.”

But Wayne will not be completely out of the picture. He has a mixtape dropping later this month and he will support artists from his Young Money group.  “My artists are doing awesome; I believe the fans deserve some peace from me, so I’ll be on my skateboard in the meantime,” he remarked. The MC admitted he is getting a little bored. “Yeah, it does get pretty boring when it comes to the rapping and that kinda stuff. I’ve done so much of it. I’ve been doing it since I was 8. I’m about to be 30 in September and I’m still rapping. So I kinda feel like I’m getting old.”

He is also getting serious about skateboarding, one of his longtime pastimes. He recently co-sponsored a skate park in his native New Orleans with Mountain Dew called DEWeezy.

He is also frequently photographed with a skateboard and is often seen on one in his music videos. What started out as a hobby for the “A Milli” rapper became a lifestyle. “What happened was I picked up the skateboard and it started being a hobby and what happened is it’s a lifestyle,” he confessed. “In order to be fully committed, you have to live that lifestyle. With these young kids now, you have to be about that life. It’s kind of putting rap on the back burner. Rap is taking a backseat to skating.”
