Delta Trims International Flights Out of Atlanta Despite New International Terminal

Atlanta – Delta Air Lines is suspending its routes from Atlanta to Barcelona and Milan for the winter, saying the flights have been affected by high jet fuel costs and global economic conditions.

The Atlanta-Barcelona and Atlanta-Milan routes have been operating year-round, but Atlanta-based Delta will suspend both after Oct. 26. The airline said it plans to resume the routes in late March.

Even as Atlanta opened its new international terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in May, Delta has been announcing plans to cut international flights. Delta said last month it plans to cut another 5 percent of flight capacity from trans-Atlantic routes, due to the weakened euro and the risk of fuel price spikes, and cut another 1 to 2 percent of flight capacity in the Pacific region.
