Bryan Singer is near to inking a deal to direct and executive produce NBC’s The Munsters.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the X-Man producer-director, Bryan Singer is in final negotiations to direct the pilot episode of The Munsters and to work alongside Bryan Fuller as an executive producer.
The new Munsters project, which received a pilot order earlier this month, has been described as “‘Modern Family’ meets ‘True Blood'” and is rumored to be in line for a potential summer debut.
Fuller and NBC’s first attempts to revive the 1960s CBS sitcom last year stalled, but it appears the newer, edgier and slightly darker version has taken fancy with NBC execs.
The reinvention explores the origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.
In addition to directing the first two X-Men films and producing the second and third, Singer has produced Superman Returns and Valkyrie. He also directed the upcoming Jack the Giant Killer.
As far as TV goes, Singer’s executive producing credits include House and ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money.
