'Spartacus' Star Andy Whitfield Dies Of Lymphoma Cancer

Andy Whitfield dies at the age of 39 of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Andy Whitfield who got his break out role as the lead in Starz’s hit show  “Spartacus:Blood and Sand” appeared in all 13 episodes of the first season. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with the deadly cancer. While production waited for Whitfield’s expected recovery they shot a prequel to “Spartacus:Blood and Sand” that the actor did not perform in. However, when Whitfield’s condition got worse the Spartacus role was eventually recast with Liam McIntyre. 18 months from being diagnosed, Whitfield died peacefully among loved ones. Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement: “We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in Spartacus and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life.  Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.”
