Aretha Franklin Vies For Position As American Idol Judge

Aretha Franklin wants the job as the next American Idol judge.

Aretha Franklin isn’t shy about throwing herself in the mix as the of the 12th season of American Idol continues. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have confirmed their exits – that leaves two spots open. With Idol experiencing it’s lowest rating in 11 years on its 10th season finale, the Queen of Soul may just bring something fresh to the mix.

A friend of Aretha revealed, “She would love that gig. It pays millions of dollars and she could stay put [in one place] for a few months to do it.”

If that wasn’t clear enough the 70-year old singer sent out an email Saturday stating, “Yes, I am interested as a judge.”

Mum is the word on what Fox executives think of Aretha’s interest.

Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus are other Idol judge hopefuls. “Fox may be scouting for an entirely new panel, with some reports suggesting that original “Idol” judge Randy Jackson, 56, could shift to another role while Carey, whom he manages, becomes a judge. Jackson’s and Carey’s publicists did not respond to requests for comment.”

Do you think Ms. Franklin would be a good fit for American Idol?
