Erica Kennedy Found Dead – Social media networks lit up yesterday with the news of writer Erica Kennedy’s unexpected death. According to her cousin @BossLadyDani, the journalist and novelist was found dead in her Miami apartment on June 13th.
Kennedy began her career as a fashion publicist and later transitioned into writing as a journalist with the New York Daily News. She later went on to write about pop culture and style for several publications including In Style, Paper, Elle UK, and Vibe. But Kennedy is probably best known as the author of two best-selling novels Bling and Feminista.
Over the past few years, Kennedy made an impact via social media, touching lives and connecting talented people. Her tweets and Facebook posts were gold and a true representation of who she was as a woman: strong, witty, fierce, and downright brilliant.
Many including Toure, Kevin Powel, Michaela Angela Davis, Carleen Brice, and Demetria Lucas expressed their condolences over Kenndy’s death. Kenndy’s good friend, Kimora Lee Simmons tweeted that she was “devastated” at the loss of her friend and godmother to her children.
Although few details are known about her death, her voice and her perspective on the world will most certainly be missed.
UPDATE:
Erica’s family has since released a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Erica Kennedy passed away in Miami Beach, Florida, last week. We are devastated by this incredible loss. Erica was bright, funny, talented, thoughtful and passionate. In her 42 years, she lived many lives as a fashion publicist, a journalist, a novelist, a blogger, a brand consultant, and a social media connector. But perhaps her most remarkable accomplishment was the indelible mark she has left on the lives of so many people across the globe.
“We love Erica and, like her countless friends and colleagues, we will miss her. However, we ask that you respect our family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
