‘What a LOSER!’: Trump Forced to Eat His Words as Age-Old Attack on Obama Comes Back to Bite Him with Receipts He Can’t Easily Explain Away

President Donald Trump just gave credence to the well-worn adage that the internet never forgets.

That’s because an old post he made criticizing former President Barack Obama is coming back to haunt him.

Back in 2012 when gas prices rose to $3.68 a gallon, Trump posted on the platform then known as Twitter, “Gas prices are at crazy levels–fire Obama!”

Fast-forward to September 2026, under Trump, diesel prices have just hit record highs of $5.85 a gallon. Gas prices are also more than a dollar higher than before the president launched his war on Iran on Feb. 28.

And for the first time ever the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded remained above $4.00 for the entire month of August, according to Triple A.

‘Evil War’

The higher prices are a direct result of Trump’s conflict with Tehran, which promptly blocked the critical maritime oil route through the Strait of Hormuz. The move brought Persian Gulf oil traffic to a near halt and has disrupted global energy supplies for months now.

The disruption has also led to higher prices on other consumer goods and services.

As the record-breaking fuel costs pinch more Americans, Congressman Shri Thanedar resurfaced Trump’s post about Obama, using it against him and calling Trump’s war “evil.”

In a message on X, the Michigan Democrat wrote above Trump’s old post, “Gas prices were $3.68 when Trump posted this. Today, they’re $4.13 due to the evil war he started a war to enrich his sons through their $6.3 BILLION Pentagon contracts.”

‘What a LOSER’

Readers on Raw Story called out MAGA voters and the lies propagated about gas prices under previous administrations.

“What is really sad, there are magas who claim, even with this evidence, that gas prices were higher under Obama and Biden, than they are now. These are the same tin foil hat idiots who said pres Obama was pres during Katrina, and let ppl drown,” Evelyn 2 pointed out.

Butterfly1 wrote, “Donald Trump is destroying America one day at a time. Oh well, 77M people are cool with it. At least we don’t have a qualified experienced Black woman as president. Calamity averted.”

The reference there was to the vote in 2024 that sent Trump back to the White House and his challenger former Vice President Kamala Harris.

 Another reader said what’s on so many people’s minds these days. “What a LOSER. Worst President ever.”

This reader was blunt in their assessment of current affairs: “Stupid a–hole will just throw a presser and put on his tough guy bully act. He’ll say some sh-t like ‘the oil companies better bring gas prices down!’ That’s all he’s got. He’s a fool that nobody is afraid of anymore.”

Rising Prices Just in Time for Holiday Weekend

The surging fuel costs come just in time for Labor Day, a big travel holiday for millions of Americans. Triple A is predicting they’ll see the highest travel-related costs over a holiday weekend ever.

And the commander in chief has no sympathy. He’s bluntly said he doesn’t care about how price increases related to his unapproved and deadly was on Iran impacts Americans’ finances.

On Friday, Sept. 4, he called the war on Tehran “small potatoes,” as he proceeded to defend his Vice President JD Vance.

A day earlier, Vance contradicted himself, first calling the military campaign “a war,” then calling it an “operation” when questioned about death benefits for an airman’s widow.

Although the Strait of Hormuz is seeing an increase in traffic, it’s still down from pre-war levels. As Trump claims shipping has rebounded, CBS reported it is still below pre-war levels.

Citing the maritime data company Lloyd’s, the network reported 102 vessels moved through the critical shipping route last week. Some 126 went through the week before, compared to an average 130 before the war.
