Joe Jackson‘s granddaughter Yasmine Jackson said she’s the victim of a racist attack that resulted in her being stabbed seven times, reportedly by a white neighbor. In a June 1 Instagram post, the 25-year-old Jackson detailed what she’s described as a life-changing moment.
“This woman chased me down and started stabbing me,” she wrote next to graphic photos that showed a long, deep facial gash and a cut on her ear. “She said it’s because I was a n—-r and that’s all I could hear while I was being stabbed. I can’t move my neck at all. I’m scared to be alone. I asked people to help me because she was stabbing me and nobody helped. Until someone did, actually a few people did & I am thankful for you.”
The woman’s name is reportedly Angela Bonnell, and at first, she only faced a charge of felony battery with a deadly weapon, which incensed Jackson. But the charges have since been upgraded, Jackson wrote, to attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and a hate crime. Jackson also posted that a preliminary hearing is set for this month.
Page six reports the alleged attack happened in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Yasmine Jackson lives and works as a nurse. Her mother Joh’Vonnie Jackson — who Joe Jackson reportedly fathered outside of his marriage — also shared photos of Yasmine’s injuries and slammed racists in the process.
“Look what this Woman did to my daughter @yasminejackson_ she tried to kill my daughter for being Black,” wrote Joh’Vonnie in the caption. “My daughter has a good heart and has dedicated her time as a nurse to help others. She did not deserve this! F–k anyone who has enough hate in their heart to want to do this to anyone!”
There were plenty of messages left under Yasmine Jackson’s post, with people wishing her well and saying they hope justice is served.
Joe Jackson was the patriarch of the Jackson family, a family of entertainers that includes The Jacksons and music greats Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. He passed away in 2018 in Las Vegas from pancreatic cancer. Cheryl Terrell, Joh’Vonnie’s mother, was his secretary.
