New York prosecutors say Jon Bon Jovi’s daughter will no longer face drug charges in following her hospitalization Wednesday night for an apparent heroin overdose. Stephanie Bongiovi, 19, was found unresponsive by paramedics in a Hamilton College dorm room. Bongiovi was charged with misdemeanor possession of heroin and marijuana, and criminally using drug paraphernalia along with her friend Ian Grant, who called 911 to the scene.
Thursday, Oneida County officials announced that the charges had been dropped against the pair, citing a good Samaritan drug law passed at the state level last year. The law, endorsed by New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo, prevents victims of a drug overdose or those seeking help for victims from facing prosecution for possession in small amounts.
“People will say she got away with murder because of who she is, but this law was passed so people don’t watch somebody die because they’re afraid of jail,” District Attorney Scott McNamara said to the Daily News.
Bon Jovi, who is the father of four children, has yet to comment on his the incident involving his daughter. According to Fox News, he is scheduled to appear at a benefit concert for Hamilton College’s scholarships and arts programs on Dec. 5 in Times Square.
