During a segment on Fox News Thursday night, die-hard Trump supporter and Pastor Robert Jeffress, defended evangelicals that support President Trump despite “porn star” allegations. However, Fox News Political Analyst Juan Williams blasted the pastor for justifying the president’s behavior.
Jeffress, a pastor at First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas and also a Fox News contributor, explained why evangelicals continue to support Trump in light of sexual allegations about adult film star Stormy Daniels, which Jeffress adds “evangelicals know they are not compromising their beliefs in order to support this great president.”
He continued, “Let’s be clear, evangelicals still believe in the commandment: thou shalt not have sex with a porn star… However, whether this president violated that commandment or not is totally irrelevant to our support of him.” The pastor admitted to supporting Trump due to “his policies and his strong leadership” and said the allegations wouldn’t matter if proven to be true.
Nevertheless, Williams made it clear that the president’s attempt to keep Daniels silent with $130,000 of hush money is relevant to the story.
“Pastor, you cannot sell your integrity, your Christian values and say ‘oh because President Trump is anti-abortion I’ll support him no matter what.’ What happened to the principles? What happened to your love of people of character,” Williams asked questioning the pastor’s morals.
The Fox News analyst continued, “This president, pastor, has never asked for forgiveness, never acknowledged it, he has tried to silence people.” Williams stated that a biblical verse explains how Jesus believed sinners needed to be reprimanded for their wrongdoings as well.
