Nick Cannon Goes On Defensive Over Black Men Being Unfair Targets When It Comes to Abuse

Nick Cannon isn’t here for the Chris Brown criticism and he’s definitely not okay with the way folks go after Black men. The mogul shot back at those who have taken issue with Cannon’s women’s basketball film co-starring the R&B-pop crooner. Then, he proclaimed there’s a disparity in the way Black men are treated over white men.

“And what about Sean Penn?” he says when asked about the issue with Cannon working with Brown in the upcoming movie indie, “She Ball.” “They ever hate on his past and the movies he did?”

Penn was rumored to abuse Madonna during their marriage in the 1980s. One report in ’87 claimed he struck the “Like A Prayer” singer with a baseball bat, which Madge denied, according to Rolling Stone. She also denied that there was a Dec. 1989 incident that “purportedly resulted in Sean’s arrest for domestic assault and battery.”

Brown’s abuse came to light in 2009, when he and Rihanna got into a fight after a pre-Grammy party which led to assault charges and probation. His ex, model Karrueche Tran, also filed a restraining order against him after he allegedly abused her.

When asked if he believes there’s a double standard in the industry, Cannon responded, “definitely.”

“They want to turn a Black man into a monster anytime they can,” the former “America’s Got Talent” host adds.
