Christina Aguilera’s Whitney Houston tribute performance at the American Music Awards Sunday, Nov. 19 was panned by many and several Twitter users spoke up about who they’d have rather seen celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Bodyguard.”
Here are five singers who many people say would have better fit the bill.
Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson has performed tributes to Whitney Houston in the past, so Twitter users felt she’d be the perfect fit to cover the late vocalists’ hits from “The Bodyguard.” Hudson performed “I Will Always Love You” at BET Honors in 2010 and again at the Grammys two years later.

Deborah Cox
Deborah Cox is filling Houston’s role as Rachel Marron in “The Bodyguard Musical” tour, which is currently making its way around the U.S. Because of her role, several Twitter users wondered why Whitney Houston’s estate didn’t tap Deborah Cox to belt out “I Will Always Love You” and others hits from the 1992 film’s soundtrack.
Brandy
Brandy idolized Houston and refers to the crooner as her “fairy godmother.” Brandy has proved herself to be worthy of doing a tribute, too. In 2012, she strutted on stage belting Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight” at the BET Awards. Plus, she’s covered her tracks in concert over the years.
Jasmine Sullivan
A single listen to Jasmine Sullivan’s cover of “I Have Nothing” and it’s easy to see why the “Need U Bad” singer would need to be considered for a Houston tribute. Her soulful spin on the song from “The Bodyguard” proves the melody would have been in good hands.

Whitney Houston
When it comes down to it, many fans simply felt no one could do Whitney’s hits justice aside from herself. Unfortunately, the singer died in 2012 after accidentally drowning in the bathtub with heart disease and cocaine as contributing factors.
