The Weeknd’s under-the-radar charity continues with a huge donation to a Ugandan medical facility.
The singer’s $100,000 gift to Suubi Health Center, a maternity and children’s medical facility in Budondo, Uganda, was inspired by his friend French Montana’s philanthropy, E! News reported.
In May, French gave a $100,000 donation to Suubi through Mama Hope, an organization that aims to end extreme poverty in the country, to help build the center. The gift also helped fund Ugandan blood banks, according to Billboard.
Suubi is being built to fulfill the dream to “eliminate deaths from preventable conditions and to help our community to thrive in the face of difficult economic and environmental realities,” according to a letter by Mukisa Bernard Nadhomi, who coordinates programs within Mama Hope.
The center will provide routine checkups and educational programs on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, according to the website.
The Weeknd’s gift follows a $50,000 donation to the University of Toronto and $250,000 check to Black Lives Matter last year.
