Heroes like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks have always been featured within Black history. However, there are numerous Black heroes who don’t get the credit they deserve.
Miriam Makeba was a South African singer and civil rights activist who publicly denounced the system of apartheid on the world stage. In retaliation, South Africa’s white-ruled government revoked her passport and even banned her from the country. In response, however, six countries, including Guinea, Belgium and Ghana, offered her passports and 10 more offered her honorary citizenship.
