Washington D.C. Police has launched an investigation after Twitter video of an officer pinning a Black woman to a car surfaced online Monday, Aug. 15.
FOX 5 reports that the woman in the video was in a verbal disagreement with a male pedestrian allegedly harassing another woman near Howard Theatre in Northwest D.C.
This is when officers approached her. Unfortunately, the officers believed the woman was the threat.
In the video above, a bulky white officer lifts the woman off the ground and pins her to the police vehicle.
The Twitter user wrote in the post that the officer did not speak to the woman before engaging her. After physically assaulting the woman, officers did not charge or arrest her for any offense.
Since Monday, police have released a statement on the matter:
“We’ve been made aware of this video and have contacted their commanding officer as we investigate this matter.”
