On Saturday, Aug. 13, protesters took to the streets after 23-year-old Sylville Smith was shot by police during a traffic stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
According to initial reports, Smith had a semiautomatic handgun on his person at the time of the stop.
In a FOX 6 News interview, Sherelle Smith reveals that the officer and her brother knew each other from high school.
“The boy knew my brother personally from high school,” Sherelle Smith says. “They knew each other.”
The young woman believes that her brother would have put up a fight before dying.
“If my brother did have his gun in his hand, why he didn’t shoot back? If he’s gonna go out, why not go out with a fight? Why not go out with a big bang?”
Now, the family will seek other avenues to find out how their loved one died.
“If we don’t have answers, we’re gonna find them and we’re gonna find them our way,” she explains. “We will not find them y’all way no more. We’re not gonna compromise no more.”
