Watch: Cal Berkley Gymnast Makes History as First Jamaican to Qualify for Olympics

A University of California Berkeley student gymnast made history by becoming the first Jamaican to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Cal gymnast Toni-Ann Williams learned she would represent Jamaica after having a strong performance in April at the Olympic test event in California.

Even though she finished 38th overall in the event with a 52.931 total score in the all-around, the Randallstown, Maryland resident will represent the island nation on the world stage.

In the Pac-12 profile, Williams tells reporters about her dream of becoming the first Jamaican to compete in the Olympics. Williams has participated in competitions for Jamaica since 2011. She admits the country has a long way to go in terms of competitive gymnastics, but there is steady progress.
