If Mitt Romney wants to get the Latino vote, he’s going to have to work hard to win over comedian George Lopez.
The Latino funny man tore into Romney on his HBO special that aired Saturday night, dropping all kinds of F-bombs to blast Romney for, in Lopez’s mind, being afraid to come out of the closet and admit that he’s Mexican.
“Mitt Romney wants the Latino vote,” Lopez said as he paced the stage. “He ain’t going to get it. He ain’t going to get it. And you know why? Because Mitt Romney is a f–king Latino and he won’t admit it. His father was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. Mitt Romney is a Chicano. But he won’t admit it. ”
Lopez continued, slowly working his way to the punch line.
“If you want our vote puto [Spanish word for male prostitute] come out of the closet. Get a hair net and lean back and say ole…His father, his grandfather went to Mexico to create a Mormon colony. That don’t sit good with Mexicans when you want six wives to get twelve kids. F–king Latinos can have one wife and get twelve kids. Don’t f–king cheat.”
Lopez, who endorsed President Obama in 2008, said the president was the “closest thing to a Latino that we have.” And why is that, George?
“Everybody wants to see his birth certificate too,” he said, as the crowd roared.
Lopez saved his most caustic words for Arizona’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who made headlines nationwide when endorsing the SB 1070 law, which gives police enforcement the right to interrogate anyone who they come across and who they suspect is living in the United States illegally.
“And while we’re at it, Sheriff Joe in Arizona – f–k you, you f–king puto,” Lopez said. “How about that? F–k you. You fat mother f–ker. F–k you. I said I was going to talk some s–t. F–k you Sheriff Joe you f–king puto. F–k you. F–k you.”
But the sheriff didn’t take Lopez’s words lightly, telling an ABC affiliate in Arizona that the profanity was uncalled for.
“Get some guts, come down here and meet me face to face. Let’s see how you act then,” Arpaio said.
