“Best Man 3” may already be in the works, according to Deadline and well, Morris Chestnut himself.
Deadline reported:
“After a rousing opening weekend that saw his sequel The Best Man Holiday gross over $30 million domestically, Malcolm D. Lee is negotiating a deal with Universal to write, direct and produce another installment of the hit ensemble romantic comedy.”
Chestnut, who plays football player Lance in the film, practically confirmed that Best Man 3 is being talked about in a recent interview with NecoleB.
“Well I actually already know what I’ll be doing. I talked to the director,” said Chestnut responding to a hypothetical question about his character in the third Best Man. “The people still have to speak. When the people come and they show that the movie is successful there will be a third and he is already breaking down some storylines for my character in the third movie. So I kind of already know a little bit.”
The Best Man Holiday exceeded expectations when the film raked in a shocking $30.5 million in its opening weekend. The film almost out-earned Marvel’s tentpole blockbuster Thor: The Dark World which was in its second week in theaters.
Lee’s $17 million sequel had the fifth-largest opening for an R-rated romantic comedy, the second-highest opening for an urban romantic comedy and the sixth-biggest opening for an urban-themed film overall. It also received an A+ CinemaScore by audiences.
