The Dumb and Dumber sequel is officially a go, and actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are reprising their roles as the famous duo, Lloyd and Harry. To further drive home the idea that the film is in the works, Carrey tweeted via his Whosay account, a picture of his mouth, complete with the signature chipped-tooth smile and captioned: “GESS HUUZ BAK BICHEZ?”
The project has experienced a great deal of production troubles, including being dropped by Warner Bros, various lawsuits, and indecisiveness on Carrey’s part about whether or not he would be involved with the sequel.
After Warner Bros. walked away from Dumb and Dumber 2, Universal Studios acquired the rights for the sequel, which follows Lloyd and Harry on a roadtrip. Brothers Peter and Bob Farrelly will once again direct.
Daniels, who has been busy with his more serious role as anchorman Will McAvoy on HBO’s The Newsroom, told the Associated Press back in June that Carrey had been against all sequels because he didn’t want to repeat himself. But ultimately, Daniels said, Carrey was the one who got the project off the ground by calling up the Farrelly brothers.
“He turned 50, and that’ll mellow you out, and suddenly he’s going, ‘Let’s have some fun.’ … And we’re going, ‘Great!'” Daniels said. “And the Farrellys said, ‘This isn’t a money grab — let’s really write a great second movie that takes the original and then blows it up even further.’ And I think they did that.”
The original Dumb and Dumber was released in 1994 and grossed $300 million around the globe. Dumb and Dumber 2 begins filming this month, according to Daniels.
