Buffalo Bills QB Competition: E.J. Manuel Takes Control

Buffalo Bills rookie E.J. Manuel has pretty much taken over the starting quarterback job.

Friday night in the Bills game against the Minnesota Vikings, Manuel completed 10 of 12 passes for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Moving the Bills’ offense down the field quickly, the rookie led the team to a 20-16 victory over the Vikings. For the second consecutive week, Manuel got rid of the ball quickly on short throws.

Manuel entered the game after halftime and immediately made progress leading Buffalo on an 80-yard touchdown drive.

Quarterback Kevin Kolb, who is competing with Manuel for the starting job, needed to have a good game on Friday to stay in the running, but failed miserably. Kolb averaged on 5 yards per throw, and he threw an interception.

The Buffalo Bills fans made it clear who they wanted to win the starting job as they booed Kolb for his performance against the Vikings.

“I’ve been booed plenty of times in my career. I’d like to boo myself when I don’t throw a good ball,” Kolb told reporters after the game. “No, I definitely don’t hear them whenever I’m out there. You’re just upset you didn’t complete the ball and continue the drive.”

Manuel is proving himself as an NFL quarterback. In two games, he has 26-of-33 passing for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
