A recent report from Empire has stated Dane DeHaan will be joining Metallica: Through The Never, a concert movie disguised as a narrative disguised as a teen drama. Or.. something.
Written and directed by Predators director Nimrod Antal, Metallica: Through The Never will focus on Dane DeHaan as a young member of Metallica‘s roadie crew. He’s apparently sent on an urgent mission before the band plays for a sold-out crowd, subsequently turning his world upside down.
Picturehouse — the company responsible for marketing and distributing the film — obviously has nothing but good things to say about Metallica: Through The Never and Dane DeHaan himself.
“Nim and the band have made a film that really captures the spirit of Metallica and their millions of loyal fans,” said Picturehouse boss Bob Berney. “It’s an entertaining genre film with a concert inside it, a fun ride featuring an exciting young actor, Dane DeHaan. It’s a very cool project to reboot Picturehouse with.”
While music-based pictures are always something of a mixed bag, we find Metallica: Through The Never to be exciting based solely on Dane DeHaan’s involvement. The young actor literally stole the show in last year’s Chronicle, earning him the prominent casting of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and a leading role in the upcoming indie drama Kill Your Darlings. There’s no reason to believe Metallica: Through The Never will disappoint (other than Metallica, of course).
The film was quietly announced last year and is currently in post-production. It is currently set to hit theaters August 8. Hopefully, the combined powers of Nimrod Antal, an aged metal band, and Dane DeHaan can make cinematic history and come up with a half-decent hybrid.
