Tina Fey Cast as Russian in 'The Muppets 2'

The Playlist has recently reported that Tina Fey will be taking part in The Muppets 2, a film that seems to be doing nothing but claiming big names.

The news comes just a few weeks after Ricky Gervais was announced to be starring in the heavily anticipated sequel and that Ty Burrell would be taking over for a part previously given to Christoph Waltz (aw). Who knew that so much casting drama would be occurring over a Muppet movie?

While no information has been given out regarding the film’s plot, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Tina Fey has snagged the role opposite Gervais as “a Russian gulag prison guard.” This will reunite Tina Fey with Ricky Gervais for the first time since The Invention of Lying (don’t worry, you didn’t miss much).

It’ll be interesting to see how exactly a comedian such as Tina Fey handles the role of a Russian gulag guard, or why exactly The Muppets 2 will include such an environment. Is director James Bobin making a political statement? Is that political statement why Jason Segel will not be returning to the project? Will this inclusion cause mass hysteria in Russia? Probably not, but it’s still cool to ponder why exactly a Russian prison camp will reportedly be in a Muppet movie (the possibilities are endless).

In any case, The Muppets 2 has yet to set a release date, other than establishing the fact that it will be released in 2013. We think Tina Fey’s contribution, along with Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell’s, will be more than fitting for a barrel full of laughs and puppet-based humor. Be sure to check back for more details.
