Courtesy of Variety, reports have been spreading across the net claiming Shailene Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.
Shailene Woodley is perhaps best known for her starring role in the television series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which has just been canceled after its fifth season. Woodley also made an appearance in 2011’s The Descendants alongside George Clooney.
Played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s take on the Spider-Man series, Mary Jane Watson has always stood as the rival to Gwen Stacy, who was established as the main love interest in this year’s reboot. However, as any real fanboy can tell you, Mary Jane eventually wins Parker and becomes the love of his life.
Shailene Woodley isn’t the only actress set to incarnate some yet-to-be seen characters. Though not chosen yet, an actor is being looked for to play Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend (and eventual arch enemy).
With as big a name as Spider-Man, pre-production news will not stay under the radar for The Amazing Spider-Man’s sequel. We’ll be sure to fill you in as more names are dropped.
