The first poster for Les Misérables, the movie adaptation of the beloved musical, featured what was essentially a transposition of the Broadway play’s famous artwork, depicting the character Cosette as a young girl, in a painterly style. Of course, that art was itself a stylized rendering of an illustration by Emile Bayard for the original printing of the novel Les Misérables, way back in 1862. Now, a new poster for the film has been released, and it’s not much of a change, simply bringing the iconic image of Cosette into live action. It features the face of Isabelle Allen, who plays the young Cosette (when the character grows up, she is played by Amanda Seyfried). It’s not much of a creative stretch, but then again, Les Misérables has such a formidable reputation that reminding people of its existence may be all that the marketing has to do. Les Misérables will be released Christmas day in theaters nationwide.
