Hugh Laurie is disappointing many Robocop fans as he will not be joining the film to play the villain.
Just a few months ago it was reported the British actor was going to be playing the role, but a tweet sent yesterday from Variety’s Jeff Snider revealed that Laurie was never in official talks for Robocop.
“While he was never officially confirmed, sources told Variety that Hugh Laurie has ended talks to play villain in Robocop. Hough Laurie Difinitely out of Robocop reboot, not that he was ever in.”
Had his talks continued, Laurie would have played the cold, sarcastic CEO of Omni Corp. the company responsible for turning Detroit police officer, Alex Murphy, into Robocop.
With Laurie out of that equation, that leaves Joel Kinnaman in the title role, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Jennifer Dhle and Marianne Jean-Baptiste as co-stars in the Jose Padilha film.
