Julianne Moore Is Margaret White In 'Carrie' Remake

It’s official: MGM has offered actress Julianne Moore the role of Margaret White in  Kim Peirce’s upcoming film Carrie.

For months it has been speculated that the studio was eyeing a few actresses for the role.  Now, according to Deadline Hollywood, Moore has received the script and a pay or play offer.

Margaret White is the hardcore religious mother of Carrie, the lead character who will be played by Chloe Moretz.

The film is based on Stephen King’s novel, which was first released in 1974 and directed by Brian De Palma.  The story follows a young Carrie in high school who develops telekinetic powers after puberty and uses those powers to seek revenge from the people who bullied her.

The new script is going to be adapted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Moore follows actress Piper Laurie who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Margaret White in the original film in 1976.

Moore  recently played Sara Palin in the HBO film Game Change and is set to appear in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, a still untitled project.
