Jimmy Smits is joining the biker drama Sons Of Anarchy for a season-long arc.
On the show, Smits will play Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gangster with an exit strategy who becomes a dangerous leader for Jax (Charlie Hunnam).
The actor has played a bad guy before. Many may remember him as the shady character Miguel Prado on Showtime’s Dexter. Even with his past gritty acting roles, as of late Smits has had a trademark shirt-and-suit look associated with most of his characters. Nero is poised to be a tattooed riddled crazy character who is a direct contrast from him wearing a suit.
Smits won an Emmy for his work on L.A. Law. The actor’s range even brought him to perform on Broadway in God of Carnage and Anna in the Tropics. Other film and television credits include NYPD Blue, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and The West Wing.
Sons of Anarchy was recently renewed by FX for a fifth and sixth season. It will return this fall.
