Producer Glen Mazzara Hints Of What's To Come In Season 3 of 'The Walking Dead'

Executive producer of The Walking Dead, Glen Mazzara, sat down with journalists yesterday to talk about season 2’s fiery ending, and what is in store for viewers in season 3.

Mazzara explained why a cloaked Michonne was introduced at the end of the season finale, and hints about what her role will be in next season’s storyline:

“Michonne is one of the lead characters in the graphic novel, so we’re excited to finally introduce her. She is a loner. She’s a kick ass character. She’s very dynamic and we really see her as a very, very important addition to the cast. She’s a significant character and she’ll be carrying a lot of story, so we’re excited about her. The reason that the character’s cloaked at the end [of season one] was because we had not cast the actress. So that is a cheat there.”

There were some characters from season one that kind of fell off the radar, but Mazzara talked about bringing those characters back as well as introducing new characters based on the comic book, and even some completely new creations:

“Merle is still out there. I’m excited to figure out what to do with him. So I would say he’s on the horizon.”

“There’s a lot of great material from the comic book and this show would have to go on 20 years to get to all of it. I think the Tyrese character is someone that we’re interested in introducing at some point. We still have Morgan and Duane who are out there from the pilot. We’re interested in them. And there’s new characters that will be original to the series not coming straight from the comic book.”

For those fans who are struggling to contain their excitement about Mazzara’s season 3 revelations, co-producer and writer Robert Kirkman promised that season 3 will be the best:

“Our third season is definitely going to be our best season yet. I’m really excited to get into it. It’s actually hard for me to do interviews about Season 2 because I’m like, ‘Oh my God, Season 3 blows this stuff out of the water. You just wait.’ We’ve been working on Season 3 for a few months now. We’re wrapping up the first half and we’ve got everything nailed down. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Yes, you read that right. The first half of the best season is nearly wrapped up! Too bad it doesn’t premiere until the Fall.
