‘She Didn’t Talk to Me for About Three Weeks’: Idris Elba Reveals His Daughter Auditioned for His New Film But Didn’t Get the Role

This week on “The Breakfast Club,” Idris Elba sat down to discuss his new movie produced by Will Packer, “Beast.” The movie revolves around Elba’s character and his two daughters who “find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savanna has but one apex predator.”

As conversation surrounding the film proceeded, Elba revealed his 20-year-old daughter, Isan Elba, auditioned for his new film in hopes of playing one of his daughters but didn’t receive the role.

While Elba admitted his daughter’s audition was great, he noted the chemistry they have in reality “wasn’t right for film” in comparison to the chemistry needed in the movie.

“The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was, the chemistry wasn’t right for film. Weirdly enough,” Elba said.

Getting passed up for the role affected Isan and Idris’ relationship for a few of weeks; the British star confessed his daughter, “didn’t talk to me for about three weeks,” after receiving a phone call from Packer confirming she didn’t land the part.

“I called and talked to her, ’cause I’ve known her for a very long time, you know what I mean,” Packer said. “I’m like ‘Uncle Will.’ That’s like my little niece, you know, and she’s amazing.”

Packer also explained the audition process Isan was put through with her father.

“He (Idris) auditioned with her, he was very tough on her, he said, ‘Listen, at the end of the day we’re going to make the best decision for the movie. I trust you, Will, trust the director,’ and she was very good, very close,” Packer said.

Although Isan didn’t receive her desired role this time, Elba made sure to note how gracious she was for the overall experience as well as stating how proud he was of his daughter for going through the intimidating process.

“She was very gracious about it and we got through that you know and I’m really proud of her to go through that, not get the role, but still come to the premiere,” Elba said.

Isan may not have been in the film, however Will Packer assured everyone in the room Isan Elba’s time will come soon.

“You’re definitely going to be seeing her,” he confidently stated as Elba nodded in agreement.

Packer and Elba’s new movie, “Beast,” is set to be released Aug. 19.
