D.L. Hughley had a run-in with rapper Theophilus London over comments he made about his friend Kanye West. Last week, Ye and the comedian went back and forth on social media about comments Hughley made during a VladTV interview.
Hughley responded in a series of tweets, in which he told the rapper, “Do you know how horrible you gotta be to make a #Kardashian date a white man!”
Now, London, Ye’s frequent collaborator, has stepped up and demanded Hughley apologize to Kanye. On Monday, The Jasmine Brand re-posted videos from the Trinidadian rapper’s Instagram Story. In one, London could be seen walking past a table where Hughley ate dinner with his family.
“LMAOOO I’m a good boy and peacemaker tho. Just came to ball on some fish,” wrote London wrote over the video. A second video revealed London was at Nobu celebrating a friend’s birthday.
Over a third clip, London wrote, “I pressed this n—a @realglhughley.” It then cuts to London seemingly turning around to grab Hughley’s arm.
“King of who?” London continued. “Lmao. I told him to apologize on camera for doing that dumb VLAD interview and his people called security?”
VladTV went back to Hughley to get his side of the incident, which he claims wasn’t that serious. The “Def Jam Comedy” star admitted the two briefly exchanged words and said he noticed London walking past his table.
Hughley told the outlet he spotted London taking selfies when he entered the bathroom. While there, the radio host claims London said, “What’s up OG?” before encouraging him to make amends with the “Jesus is Born” artist.
In response, Hughley said he told London, “[Kanye West] needs to make it right!” In an Instagram post, he also confirmed that Nobu’s security stepped in to defuse the situation, not his.
He said, “Who TF is THEODORE HUXTABLE and WHY IS HE VIDEOBOMBING my table while I’m having dinner with friends and family?? These new cats are built WAY DIFFERENT.”
“Where do you draw the line on clout chasing??” he continued. “I would say: taking a video in the bathroom at @noburestaurants while another man has his [eggplant emoji] out!! Security was doing their job keeping the clout chasers away from the guests TRYING to enjoy their dinner. CONGRATULATIONS. YOU PLAYED YOURSELF!!”
D.L. then tagged his friend, @j.vega934, adding, “WHEN ARE THEY GONNA LEARN TO STOP COMING FOR ME??”
After the posts circulated on social media, fans in The Jasmine Brand’s comments shared their opinion on how London approached the matter.
“That’s what security gets paid for. You rather hum fight you and then you hit back with a lawsuit.”
“Ye fans be doing too much.”
“DL had no idea who tf that was….[call] security.”
“Umm, why you walking up to him like you know him? I woulda called security too. SMH.
“Clout chasing at its finest.”
“Yall quit bothering people.”
“Dude was out of line.”
“Sir, [you] should have minded [your] business now if his security would have nvm smh.”
“The way some of these men are going hard for Ye would be dope if Ye weren’t the one in the wrong. Let’s learn to hold people accountable for their actions rather than enabling this type of harassment being displayed.”
